I wrote my future in the present.
In 2016 I was given the book Beach Money by Jordan Adler on CD. I have since listened to it approximately 35 times. Wild guess, but probably close.
In the book, Jordan has many great incites and instigates many action steps. All towards your vision of Beach Money.
One of which is to write yourself a letter or a story about your future written in present tense. Full of all the juicy details. Holding nothing back and not holding yourself back.
Since first listening to this book, I have written a few letters to myself scattered in notebooks and journals.
This past week, Monday was my weekly sisterhood session. On our call, I reached over and handed little Meri a notebook of little importance or consequence… until the page I had opened to jumped out and bit me. A visual and emotional attack, if you will.
‘MY STORY 2029’
Written at the top of the page. A letter to myself written 5 years ago about my life and business 5 years from now. Epic!
I saved it to read and absorb as my birthday gift to myself on Wednesday, the 23rd of October, ((yes I am a Scorpio, you are probably not surprised)).
It was the greatest gift I could have given myself!!!
It’s short, maybe 3 paragraphs. But it’s everything I needed to remind myself of the juicy goodness I have been working towards all along, sometimes not even knowing how or where or why.
Heck, I seriously don’t remember writing this. And Jordan Adler says in his book to write and then file it away. Keep working and one day you will open up that notebook or journal and be living in that letter. THAT WAS ME THIS WEEK. It’s kind of surreal.
Growth & Resilience
The main theme to my letter to myself after reading and feeling it a few times; growth and resilience. Expansion and connection.
Like. Wow.
Things I think to myself, wow, I wrote about this, not knowing what ‘this’ was… “Kyle and I yet again found that sweet spot that brought us to this day” – to which I know now to be us finding Jesus together and reconnecting on a level my past self was craving and yet my present self can’t believe how crazy different and amazing our relationship is now. 10 years into marriage. The things of this world that tried to tear us apart. Along with our journey to debt freedom and parenthood.
Vision Casting
I vision cast my business growth in this letter. Listing locations, regions, teams, and my presence in them. Along with the creation of “a steady stream of incoming business”.
I hug my last boss(Kirk) in this letter in 2021, “big and pregnant”(that would be our son Lee) which I did hug Kirk with Lee in my belly multiple times and that gave my momma heart a big squeeze to think about and read about.
According to this letter I have 5 more years until I earn my first million dollars. And we finish building our dream home. And to figure out homeschooling!?
The Reality
You know what this letter didn’t give me? Anxiety. Heck, I know a great homeschooling mentor, I have the best interior design and architect on staff(my momma), I have Jesus and a million dollars is only 7 figures. Easy!
That is resilience. Relationships. Peace. Wholeness.
Hold Fast
And finally, in this letter I share that “my business took on a life of its own when I let the reigns out and the control to the wind”. Because friend, it’s not so much about the HOW but about the peace you have with yourself and your God coupled with the willingness you have to hold fast to the bigger picture. Your vision.
So, go write that letter. Then, put it away to be found when it’s the perfect time. And if you don’t know where to start and want growth and resilience as part of your story… I just may have a spring-board for you!
